Photographs were taken by A. C. Risser, Ron Cole, T. A. Heist, Joe De Beers, and Hazel Smithers documenting their work for the Smithsonian Institution African Mammal Project, 1963 - 1964. On the reverse side of the photographs are captions covering photographer, subject matter, location, and sometimes date. Subject matter covers candid images of participants and / or local inhabitants, young ostriches at a farm in South Rhodesia, terrain (dunes, desert), Bontebok state park, campsites, jackal pups (South Rhodesia), trout hatchery, inhabitants of Neiman's farm, and mammal specimens. Participants photographed include Ted Heist, John Dixon, Art Risser, George Hughes, Ron Cole, and Hazel Smithers. Locations include Cape Province, Natal Province [KwaZulu-Natal], North Transvaal Province [Limpopo], South Africa; Salisbury, South Rhodesia; South West Africa [Namibia].
