Abstract

Photographs were taken by A. C. Risser and R. E. Cole documenting their work for the Smithsonian Institution African Mammal Project, 1963 - 1964. On the reverse side of the photographs are captions covering photographer, subject matter, location, and sometimes date. Subject matter covers candid images of participants, observed wildlife (jackal pups in South Rhodesia), candid group portraits with colleagues and local inhabitants, participants at campsite (John Hixon, George Hughes, Ted Heist), insects at traps, collected mammal specimens, tame ostriches in South Rhodesia, Welwitchia [Welwitschia] plant (South West Africa [Namibia]), and A. L. Moore. Locations cover South Rhodesia; Cape province, Natal Province [KwaZulu-Natal], South Africa.
