Abstract

The field book documents the mammal collecting of Peter F. D. Van Peenan in South Vietnam, August - September 1967. Entries include specimen catalog entries and journal entries. Catalog entries cover date, type, date, locality (nation, province, geological landmark, latitude and longitude), collecting method, 4 measurements, elevation, notes on anatomy, specimen number (example: F.A. 64.1). There are notes about CAC teams and their collecting. Journal entries are interspersed with catalog entries. They are headed with date and describe work with colleagues, daily work, travel details, collecting methods, sketches of habitat, weather, mentions of M. L. Cunningham, interactions with local inhabitants and foreign nationals. Some locations are military camps and compounds. A portion of the notebook is blank. At the end of the notebook are notes about animals reported in FPO survey areas, listing animal reported, probable species, source, and comment. There is also a list of maps used (Formosa and Danang area); information about shipments; and contact information for NAMRU and SEATO. There are loose inserts.
