Abstract

The notebook describes work completed by William Foshag at Paricutín and Mesa de los Hornitos in Mexico, September 16, 1943 - October 27, 1945. Pages are numbered, entries are dated. Foshag highlights subjects in some entries by listing descriptive terms in the left hand margin, including shocks, arches, minerals, craters, and cone. Subject matter includes daily activities; ongoing eruptions and changes to the volcano; emanating gases, clouds, and material (i.e. bombs and ash clouds); weather; photographs and movies taken; specific volcanic flows; and detailed descriptions of samples. Includes some sketches and cross sections of emanations from Paricutín, a copy of text from a letter from John M. Barb, and a note on a movie by Bridge of Paricutín, dated November 14, 1949.
