Abstract

Original logbook of the Albatross, dredge numbers 3645-3663, hydro numbers 3696-3720, 29 August 1896 to 8 April 1897. Data recorded include survey and hydro number (no.), date, machine, turns, correction, depth, shot or lead, bottom, bottom temperature, number of thermometer, correction, corrected temperature, air temperature, surface temperature, drift, trawl or dredge, sounding wire readings, dredge rope readings, serial temperatures, and general remarks. Notes on fish and other marine life such as crustaceans, mollusks, algae are included. Localities are not named, but coordinates for the Sea of Okhotsk [Okhotskoye More], Hakodate Bay, "Gulf of Tokyo", and perhaps Santa Catalina Island are included.
