Abstract

The bird catalog documents C. O. Handley's field work, 1953 - 1991. They list specimen number (1089 - 1345), sex, type (scientific name), locality (date, county, town, distance from, sometimes elevation), date, and notes. Notes cover a combination of information: specimen preparation, collector, collecting method, anatomy measurements, recipients of specimens, appearance including colors, and weight. Locations include Virginia as well as Panama (Bocas del Toro and Darién). There is a page of journal entry (June 4, 1953) describing collecting at Lake Drummond, Virginia. It discusses observed heron behavior (killing fish by dropping and striking it).
