The field notes document C. O. Handley's field work in Virginia, 1955 - 1957. There are two groupings. The notes in the envelope covers notes for birds, mammals, reptiles collected in September 1957. Entries are dated and headed with location and followed by a table of information including type and counts with totals. Locations are in Burkes Garden and Mt. Lake. The second set of notes covers September 1955, and includes a table of information headed with location (combination of state, county, area, and landmarks) and journal entries. Table entries show type (common name), and counts per date. Journal entries describe travel details (route, destinations), collecting methods, specimens collected (mammals), bird lists, weather, work with John Paradiso and Bernard Feinstein, daily activities, and summaries of conversations with local inhabitants. Locations mention Handley cabin as well as Montgomery county, Giles county, andBurkes Barden, Virginia.
