Abstract

The journal and notes document C. O. Handley's field work in Virginia and New Jersey, April 9 - 21, 1956. Entries are dated and headed with location / route (combination of state, county, landmarks i.e. Back Bay Refuge). Includes travel details (route, destinations), terrain (including coastlines), mammal specimens collected (scientific name), flora (types) and fauna observed, colleagues with whom worked, weather, collecting methods (type, quantity), list of individuals related to the trip and their contact information. Includes a loose insert "Daily field check list." Also includes tables of information relating to birds. These are headed with location and include counts per day. Locations are in the vicinity of Princess Anne County (now part of Virginia Beach), Accomac [Accomack] county, Virginia; Doughty county, several refuges and Brigantine, New Jersey.
