PrintThis journal was kept by Leonard P. Schultz during his work for Operation Crossroads, Marshall Islands, 1946. Schultz participated in surveying fauna before and after the atomic bomb tests. The journal includes data, field notes, and color illustrations of fishes. Data recorded includes: record of flying fish flights (flight time, number of take off, date); fish discarded. Long, narrative entries describe daily activities (such as poisoning and collecting fish), and observations about the shoreline and abundance of fish. Schultz includes physical descriptions of fish specimens and also notes color and patterns of fish through sketches that he completed in color pencil. Numbers (possibly station numbers) are included with some specimen entries. An index of color sketches and a record of photographs taken can be found in the back of the book.
