Field notes, Guatemala, 1947 (1)
Close
PrintThe field book (1 of 3) documents C. O. Handley's field work in Guatemala, March - April, 1947. Entries are often fragmentary notes and lists. In the beginning there are lists of expenses (dated) and contact information. Entries follow that are more narrative in style but not long narratives like Handley's other journals. They are dated and headed with location, followed with descriptions of terrain and vegetation, travel details, colleagues and officials (often lists full names) with whom met, notes on fauna including birds (sometimes as lists, sometimes detailing abundance / rarity, behaviors observed, locations), and sometimes descriptions of local inhabitants (may have interviewed them about wildlife).
