Abstract

The notes and black-and--white photographs document C. O. Handley's field work in the south east United States, 1945. Notes are tabbed with nests, snakes, mammals. There is a collection of note cards with birds listing type, location and date seen. The notes include a list of supplies; list of birds with species and count of nests; list of snakes (type date, location, description, measurements, date); notes on mammals with detailed descriptions of observations of captive mammals, these are notes are dated and not in chronological order (1944- 1945), descriptions and information on owl pellets collected. There are typed descriptions of collecting in Whitetop Mountain, Virginia, with photographs of terrain and individuals, birds' nests, birds, mammals. Some photographs have captions. There is also a hand written list describing a 3-day visit to Eastern Shore of Virginia to study and collect birds.
