Abstract

The journals document field work of Charles O. Handley, Jr., in Panama, September 3, 1984 - August 31, 1985. The journal for 1984 covers the conclusion of BCI Bat Project research. The objectives were to amass data on food habits through an annual cycle, study bat - fig relationships, and add banding data. Entries are dated and headed with location / route and describe the type work completed, strategies, work completed by assistants / colleagues and volunteers, expenses, weather, daily activities, descriptions of numbered fig trees (measurements, state of fruit, scientific name, location), trips to Gamboa, terrain and vegetation, collecting methods, specimens collected, observed flora and fauna (including behaviors), and descriptions of sites visited (i.e. Ft. San Lorenzo, La Cruces trail). There is memoranda relating to sunken vessel (boat 4) at BCI. There are a few notes in margins relating to subject matter in entries (bats' eating habits).
