Abstract

This logbook was kept by Leonard P. Schultz during Operation Crossroads in 1946 aboard the USS Bowditch. The logbook includes entries before and after the atom bomb tests on Bikini Atoll (Marshall Islands) as Schultz participated in a survey of fauna before and after the tests. Entries are narrative and describe daily activities, collection of fish specimens, general notes, and expenses. Includes an entry made on "Able Day" describing Schultz's observations of the atom bomb explosion. A list of scientific personnel can be found in the back of the book. Localities include: Bikini, Rongelap, Kwajalein, and possibly others.
