Abstract

The two sets of typed notes document William Foshag's fieldwork May 21 - August 1943, in Mexico at Paricutin Volcano. Entries are dated, and pages are numbered. Entries are detailed narratives describing aspects of the volcano, such as the flow of lava (smell, formation, and appearance); details and changes of the orilla, craters, and cone; area terrain; and effect on the village of Paricutin. Other subject matter includes weather; details about campsites and travel around the cone of the volcano for further observations; and ongoing eruptions. Both types notes describe Paricutin, though the second also discusses vegetation and wildlife of the area, and daily entries are often sub-headed with time of day and event or observation.
