Abstract

This field book contains a narrative account of Stejneger's collecting trip along Copper Island (Mednyy, Ostrov) in Russia while working with the U.S. Fish Commission. Notes include inventories of number or pounds of seal skins collected, itinerary, some terrain sketches, and an expense account, October 11-October 29, 1895. Other locations such as Nikolski (Nikol’skoye), Bering Island (Beringa, ostrov), and various location in the region are also included. Notes are extremely descriptive of day to day events, observations, weather conditions and are at times poetic.
