Abstract

The journal documents the field work of Merlin D. Tuttle for the Smithsonian Venezuelan Project, August 16 - September 20, 1965. Entries are headed with date and location (country, distance from town or region, sometimes landmarks (i.e. hotels). Entries are written on one side of loose leaf pages, on reverse side are notes about collecting sites and results. Entries describe travel details (accommodations, route), daily activities, interactions with local inhabitants and colleagues, weather, terrain including elevation, vegetation (types and description), specimens collected (mammals, birds, including quantity and sometimes specimen numbers), collecting methods (type, location, quantity), and logistics. Collecting sites are numbered. Locations are in the vicinity of Caracas [Distrito Federal].
