Abstract

The journal documents the field work of Norman Peterson for the Smithsonian Venezuelan Project, July 21, 1965 - April 18, 1966. Pages are numbered (1 - 288). Includes multiple pasted and loose inserts. Entries are dated and cover travel details (time of day, destination), specimen collecting methods (type, quantity, location), temperature and weather (and relative humidity) sometimes with time of day, specimens collected (mammals, lizards, birds), photographs taken, daily activities, vegetation and terrain, notes about specimen labels, and specimens processed (00041 - 04048). Entries often refer to numbered net locations. Location information includes combination of altitude, town, distance from, and latitude and longitude. Includes hand drawn maps of collecting sites with notes indicating trap and net locations as well as area vegetation and landmarks.
