Abstract

The journal documents the field work of Norman Peterson for the Smithsonian Venezuelan Project, July 1 - September 23, 1968. Entries are dated and in two formats, narrative and numbered list. The numbered lists detail collecting events including collecting methods (type, quantity, location), specimens collected (mammals, birds, lizards, ectoparasites, amphibians), range of time, weather, habitat, specimens processed (23610 - 24800), and comments. Other entries detail travel details (routes, destinations, campsites), daily activities and time of day, and communications with colleagues. Collecting areas are numbered and include detailed descriptions of vegetation (including types) and terrain. There are hand drawn maps. There is a list of animals collected for organs including specimen number, type, sex, and date.
