Abstract

The journal documents the field work of Norman Peterson for the Smithsonian Venezuelan Project, April 1 - June 30, 1967. Entries are dated and include numbered lists detailing specimen collecting. These describe collecting method (type, quantity, location), type and quantity of specimens collected (mammals, amphibians, birds), temperature and weather, habitat, range of time, sometimes range of specimen numbers processed (12534 - 13806), and additional information about collecting event including comments. There are hand drawn maps of collecting sites. Sometimes there are references to blood samples. Other entries are narratives describing daily events and communications with C. O. Handley. There are sometimes detailed descriptions of numbered collecting areas, including vegetation (type) and terrain. Locations are described with a combination of town or region, distance from, altitude, and latitude and longitude.
