Field notes and research notes on sea fans / sea whips (Gornonia), circa 1875-1878, created by Richard Rathburn during a collecting trip to Brazil. Notes include general descriptions of sea fans and research notes from literature. Also included is a map on onion skin of the east coast of Itaparica, Bahia, 1876. The map includes plot points an is accompanied by an unlabeled sketch. Additional notes on Itaparica and Mar Grande reef are included.
