This field book consists of the field notes of D. Griffiths, mainly on cacti observed and collected in California, Arizona, Texas, and Mexico, 1905. Entries consist of narrative accounts of collecting activities and observations interspersed with entries on specimens collected. Specimen entries generally include collector number (7980 - 8186), scientific name, and notes on physical description (joints, flower color, fruit color, etc.), abundance / rarity, blooming period, and other observations. Emphasis seems to have been placed on fruit. Throughout the book are markings that appear to show that a cross-section of cactus fruit was pressed / stamped on the page to indicate shape. These shapes have been outlined and added to in pencil. Also included in the book is a very faded photographic image of a cactus. Localities include: Santa Ana (CA), Riverside (CA), San Diego (CA), Tucson (AZ), Cardenas (Mexico), San Antonio (TX), Zacatecas (Mexico), Gutierrez (Mexico), Guadalajara (Mexico), and others.
