Abstract

This volume, titled "Ichthyological field notes from an expedition to Onotoa Atoll [Onotoa], Gilbert Islands [Gilbert Group], Summer, 1951," documents John E. Randall's field work and collections. A few collections were also made on Tarawa and Makin [Butaritari]. Entries date from 29 June to 3 September 1951 and include species name, length, and color descriptions of specimens collected, as well as details on collecting activities, habitats, and fish observations. Collection methods include poisoning, spearing, and purchasing or trading. Collecting station localities are shown on a map of Onotoa. Don Strasburg and others assisted with collecting.
