Abstract

This field book consists of the field notes of David Griffiths, from a collecting trip in the United States (including Kansas, New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, and California), 1903 to 1904. This item was probably two volumes that have been bound together. Narrative diary-type entries are interspersed with lists of plant specimens collected. The diary-type entries include Griffiths' record of travel, collecting activities and daily activities, and observations of plants and local agriculture. Griffiths documents weather including snowfall. Localities include: Strong City (KS), Topeka (KS), Roswell (NM), Albuquerque (NM), Navajo (AZ),Canyon de Chelly (AZ), Andrade (AZ), El Paso (TX), Eagle Pass (TX), Tucson (AZ), Tempe (AZ), Riverside (CA), San Diego (CA), Los Angeles (CA), and others. Includes correspondence between NMNH Department of Botany and Ponoma College, related to the loan of Griffiths' field books.
