Abstract

This volume documents collections made by Robert R. Miller for in Guatemala in 1947. Collecting localities include lakes, rivers, streams, springs, and mercados [markets] in Guatemala. The bulk of the volume comprises field notes that were recorded on field data record sheets of the U. S. National Museum Division of Fishes; these date from 14 March to 15 May 1947. Data sheet fields include tag number, station number (M47-1 to M47-63), locality, drainage, date, water, vegetation, time, bottom, shore, current, distance from shore, tide, depth of capture, depth of water, method of capture, collected by, preservative, temp, and air. The bottom half of most sheets, and often the back side and additional sheets, have extensive notes listing and describing species captured and providing details on collecting activities and information from local fishermen and residents. In addition to Miller, Ancil D. Holloway is also listed as a collector on many records. Also included in the volume are lists of fish species, including lists of type specimens from particular localities, as well as contact information for the trip.
