PrintThis notebook details the field work of Lester F. Ward for the United States Geological Survey from May 14 - October 5, 1893. Localities include but may not be limited to areas within Virginia, the District of Columbia, and Maryland, especially areas around the Potomac River. Dated journal entries include observations of soils and rock (mostly sands and clay), such as coloration, composition, and depth, as well as accounts of collecting various plant fossils. Locations of fossil beds are given, along with types of rock and some species names. There are accounts of additional people worked with as well.
