Abstract

This notebook details the field work of Lester F. Ward for the United States Geological Survey from 1892-1894. Localities include but may not be limited to areas within Virginia, including the James River. Dated journal entries include observations of soils and rock, such as coloration, composition, and depth, as well as accounts of collecting various plant fossils. Locations of fossil beds are given, along with types of rock at these sites, and some species names. There are accounts of additional people worked with, as well as some geological sketches.
