Abstract

This item consists of bird specimen lists and species lists from the United States Exploring Expedition (Wilkes Expedition). Dates are unclear so general values based on the expedition are provided. Localities include but are not limited to the United States, Brazil, Chile, Australia, and the Philippines. Specimen lists are primarily composed of collecting by Titian Ramsay Peale and R. J. Pollard, with some dates, localities, sex information, and USNM numbers. There is a list of species described by Peale dated 1848 (after the expedition), as well as a list of "duplicate" birds in storage indexed with tabs. USNM numbers are present for most specimens.
