Abstract

The diary, written in 1901, documents Edward Preble's trip with Alfred Emerson Preble to the Athabaska-Mackenzie region of Canada while working for the United States Bureau of Biological Survey. Documents the collecting of mammals and birds. Entries date April 30 - September 5 and include date and location. It describes the terrain traveled through; types of trees observed; distances traveled; geology exposed by erosion and characteristics of shorelines passed; birds and other wildlife observed (scientific or common names used); and specimens collected. Includes a lists of specimens collected. Locations include the vicinity of Athabasca Landing, House River, Grand Rapids, Fort Chipewyan, Mackenzie River, and Fort Resolution.
