Abstract

This field book documents the field work of Henry Bassler for the United States Geological Survey from 1914-1916. Localities include but may not be limited to areas within Maryland, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. Dated entries include details of daily activity, as well as descriptions of fossils collected, soil composition, rock layers, and collection sites. Descriptions may include composition, color, depth, measurements, and surrounding terrain. Among the fossils discussed are plants, insects, crustaceans, and mollusks. There are numerous geological sketches present with accompanying measurements and descriptions.
