Abstract

This volume is a catalog of tin tag numbers of fish collected on cruises of the Albatross. Records are dated from 1884 to 1910. Creator is not evident from the volume, but is taken from the finding aid for SIA RU007220. Records in the volume include following fields: number, station or locality, date, and remarks. For many records, a rough identification field replaces the remarks field. Localities are varied and include Mexico, California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, Alaska, Philippine Islands and other Pacific Ocean islands. Additional localities include station numbers; station positions/locations are not specified. Locality field sometimes includes method of collection, such as dynamite, gill net, or seine. The spine label indicates that tin-tag numbers in the volume span from 1 - 9399, A 1 - A 200, A 401 - A 1620, and A 1950 - A 2115. Sections of records in the volume are not in sequential order, and the discontinuous pagination of the volume indicates that it may be an aggregation of volumes. A set of typed pages numbered 19 through 39 is bound in the front of the volume; it lists tin tag numbers 1 to 881 and locality for each. These tag numbers are also listed in pages 2-7 of the subsequent section of the catalog. Bound in the back of the volume is a set of carbon-copy typewritten pages with the title "List of tin tags of A - series used in the biological survey of San Francisco Bay, California." This table includes the fields tag no., station or locality, date, species, length in inches, apparatus, and collector. Tag numbers span from A 1950 to A 2115; record dates from 1 February 1912 to 15 November 1913. Correspondence associated with this table is dated 6 February 1914.
