Abstract

The journal documents the field work of Norman Peterson for the Smithsonian Venezuelan Project, March 12 - June 16, 1966. Entries are dated and pages are usually headed with site number and sometimes additional location information (latitude and longitude, town, region, distance from). Format changes midway through the notebook. Initially information is listed in numbered categories: quantity and distribution of snap traps; details on mist traps; quantity of mammals collected; quantity of trap nite (?); weather conditions, temperature, vegetation and habitat, sometimes with time of day; and animals processed including specimen numbers. Sometimes there are hand drawn maps of the collecting areas, additional information about specimen characteristics. Following this are descriptive narratives headed with date, location, and elevation, followed by flora and fauna sometimes with measurements, terrain, weather, and temperature. There are tables of data on altitude, and corrections (reference, truck. thommen).
