Abstract

This volume is a catalog of bird specimens collected at sea on Southern Island Cruises (SIC) on the Pacific Ocean from 24 January to 20 May 1966 for the Pacific Ocean Biological Survey Program. The cover of the volume says "At-sea SIC 11 specimen catalogue" and also says "SIC 11 & 12." The folder title says "SIC 11, 13 (?)" There is no indication of SIC number on the pages of the volume, and no obvious indication that the records are from more than one cruise. Field numbers span from 1705 to 2230. Locations are in an area of the Pacific Ocean approximately bounded by 11° S to 21° N and 157° to 179° W, with a concentration of localities in an area approximately bounded by 1° S to 1° N and 175° to 178° W. Pago Pago Harbor, American Samoa, is a locality for one record. Fields include S.I. field #, species, location, date, lat., long., sex, wt., and remarks. Species include Sterna fuscata [Onychoprion fuscatus], Puffinus pacificus, Oceanodroma leucorhoa, and others. Remarks include molt, whether color notes were taken, type of preparation, and collector and number. Collectors include F. Smith, B. Harrington, Balcomb, Tordoff, and others.
