Abstract

This volume is a catalog of bird specimens collected on Southern Island Cruises (SIC) 11 and 13 on the Pacific Ocean from February to May 1966 for the Pacific Ocean Biological Survey Program. There is a section of the volume for each cruise. SIC 11 records date from 6 February through 13 March 1966. Field numbers span from 5868 to 5915. Locations include Baker Island, Swain's Island, Christmas Island [Kiritimati], and Hull and Enderbury Islands [of the Phoenix Group]. Fields include field #, species, location, date, wt., sex, measurements, and remarks. Collectors include F. Smith, Heryford, Harrington, and others. Bird species include Gygis alba, Anous spp., and others. Mus musculus and Rattus exulans specimens were also collected. SIC 13 records date from 6 April to 16 May 1966. Fields numbers span from 5916 to 6105. Locations include Howland Island, Palmyra Island [Palmyra Atoll], and Enderbury, McKean, Phoenix and Hull Islands [of the Phoenix Group]. Most fields do no have headings, but appear to include field number, species, location, date, reproduction, weight, misc. [specimen remarks], and preparation remarks. Species include Sterna fuscata [Onychoprion fuscatus], Anous spp., and others. Specimen remarks include notes on molt and notes indicating whether color notes and measurements were taken. Preparation remarks include type of preparation and collector's name and number. Collectors include F. Smith, J.P. Tordoff, and others. A related item, Southern island cruise 11, 13, 1966, part 1 : island catalog, SIC 11, in Box 200 Folder 7 of this same collection (RU SIA000245), contains two tables that appear to list the same specimen records as those in the SIC 11 section of this volume (field numbers 5868 to 5915).
