Abstract

The notebook documents Harrison G. Dyar's observations of collected insects and related rearing data for 1900 - 1902. Entries are organized by specimen numbers 901 - 1122. Pages are numbered. Entries begin with name, collector if other than Dyar, vegetation, date, followed by descriptions of appearance and behavior relating to phases of development. Descriptions cover sex, appearance, colors, measurements and related dates with changes in appearance. Sometimes includes references to catalog numbers. Labeled “Harrison G. Dyar, U.S. Natl. Museum, Washington DC, Apr 30, 1900. July 9, 1902”, “Mosquitoes, Page 189, 199. (1902)”. Includes sketches of specimen anatomy sometimes with leaves, loose inserts and sometimes a second specimen number. Locations in Washington, DC, specify neighborhoods.
