Abstract

The field book documents the field work of Charles O. Handley, Jr. in Canada (Prince Patrick Island and Northwest Territories), August 1 - October 17, 1949. Includes journal and bird / mammal notes. Journal entries are dated and headed with locality. Details include travel details (routes, distances, accommodations, campsites), weather and temperature, observations of flora and fauna including birds and mammals (behavior, habitat and terrain, and appearance), specimen collecting, collecting methods, specimen preparations, observations and interactions with colleagues, daily activities with time of day including meals, interactions with the Air Force, and list of supplies. Locations include Mould Bay (and station) and Cherie Bay. Notes on mammals and birds are organized by type of wildlife (scientific name) and include date, locality, quantity, habitat, behavior as well as relating collecting. Some descriptions are extensive.
