Abstract

The notebook documents Harrison G. Dyar's observations and collecting of insects in the west United States and Canada, 1892 - 1893. Entries are organized by specimen number (340 - 374). They usually start with identification, location, date, vegetation, and include observations and rearing data, descriptions of appearance including coloring and measurements, and characteristic changes relating to age, and sometimes catalog number. These observations are often dated sometimes with time of day. There are notations dated 1892 - 1900. Includes loose inserts with additional observations. Some pages are stamped Portland, Oregon. Locations include California (San Mateo county), New York (Plattsburgh), Oregon (Portland), Washington (Vancouver, Port Townsend); Canada, British Columbia (Nanaimo).
