Abstract

The notebook documents Harrison G. Dyar's observations and collecting of lepidoptera, July 1890. Dated notes and loose inserts extend through 1895. Entries are headed with specimen number (BB197 - BB212), and usually begin with date and collecting description, and vegetation. Observations include descriptions of characteristics (appearance, color, measurements, sex), descriptions of periods of the insects' life cycle. Sometimes portions of cycle are broken out (i.e. molting) with dates. Includes sketches of insect anatomy. Locations include New York (Keene Valley, Dutchess county, Ulster county).
