Abstract

The field book documents William Dall's collecting and observations of Alaska Coal Fields, Bogoslof Volcano, Corral Hollow, California, 1895 while with the United States Geological Survey (USGS). Entries are dated and usually list location at the top. Subject matter covers daily occurrences, geological formations, weather conditions, descriptions of anchorage spots, specimens collected (includes the bag numbers for specimens), and mineral deposits. Near the end of entries is a list of distances, with bearings, for Bogaslof and Grewingk islands. Locations across Alaska include the vicinity of Sitka, Bogoslof Island, Kootznahoo Inlet, Kodiak Island, Augustine Island , Point Possession, Kialagvit Bay [Wide Bay], and Grewingk Glacier. Includes sketches of observed terrain.
