Abstract

This folder contains a portion of the data sheets reporting results from the Smithsonian Oceanographic Sorting Center (SOSC) of stomach content analysis for Pacific Ornithological Oceanographic Project (POOP) 3, SOSC acc. no. 70. Each data sheet (of 11 total) records the stomach contents of an individual bird. Birds were caught February 4 through July 23, 1964. Stomach contents were recorded in November and December 1964. Bird species include Diomedea nigripes, Sula sula, Puffinus pacificus, Sterna fuscata [Onychoprion fuscatus], Fregata minor, Pterodroma externa, Phaethon rubricauda, Pluvialis dominica, and Anas acuta. Fields include species, station no., SOSC acc no., lat. & long., date, time caught, direction flying, squid, ceph. beaks, fish, fish remains, crustacea, other animals, parasitic animals, notes on squid, notes on fish, and general notes. Also included is a 1-page handwritten table titled "Data for Bird Stomachs Collected by Pacific Project, Division of Birds, Smithsonian Institution," which lists each data sheet by specimen number (= station number), with bird species, date of capture, location, latitude, and longitude for each. A note under the title indicates that the data on file at SOSC for the specimens listed in the table are incomplete. A one-page typescript table with the same title appears to contain the same information. The tables list more field numbers than are represented by the data sheets in the folder.
