Abstract

The field notes document the collecting of August Busck in areas around the District of Columbia during September - October 1898 while he was working for the US Department of Agriculture. Notes are entered from the front and back of the notebook. Entries are dated and headed with specimen number, name, and sometimes type of vegetation. Locations are often identified by landmark (i.e. Department grounds). Entries include detailed descriptions of insects' effects on vegetation and specimen characteristics with measurements, sometimes including notes about larvae, eggs, and cocoons. There is also some unidentified information. Includes loose inserts with sketches of wings, and notes on specimens AB100 - AB103.
