Abstract

The diary documents daily activities of William Dall, including his work in Alaska April to November of 1873 while working for the United States Coast Survey (USCS). Entries are chronological, headed with the date, listed on the left hand side of the notebook. Notes, calculations, or illustrations are usually on the right hand side. Entries detail weather, temperature, barometric measurements, travel experiences, and interactions with colleagues and local people. Lists measurement taken by way of signals at Cape Cheerful, bearings for Kinloff and Kiska harbor. In back includes a list of records and work to be done. Additional locations include vicinity of Unimak Cove, Eider village, and Cape Cheerful.
