Abstract

The field catalog documents the mammal specimens collected by H. W. Setzer, 1949 - 1978. A portion was collected for the Smithsonian Institution African Mammal Project. Entries are dated and headed with locality (country, region, town, sometimes distance from, sometimes elevation, latitude and longitude). Lists include specimen number, sex, name, sometimes USNM catalog number, 4 measurements, sometimes weight. Sometimes includes notes about specimen preparation, quantity and measurements of embryos, collecting method, and additional measurements. Includes bird specimens. Collecting locations include United States (Alaska, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania), Costa Rica, East Aden Protectorate [Yemen], Iran, Libya, Mexico, Panama (including Barro Colorado), and West Pakistan. Locations in Africa during the African Mammal Project include Libya, Chad, Rhodesia, South Africa, Mozambique, Senegal, Bechuanaland [Botswana], Nigeria, Mauritania, Ghana, Morocco, Namibia.
