Abstract

Diary documents William Dall's work in Alaska in 1873 while working for the United States Coast Survey (USCS). Entries are headed with the date, and are listed on the left hand side of the pages. Right hand side includes measurements, notes, of illustrations. Entries detail weather, temperature, barometric readings, tidal measurements per ten minute segments, collecting shell specimens, bird specimens, locations, interactions with participants and local residents. Locations include the coast line of Alaska including the vicinity of Unalaska, Unalga Island, Falmouth Harbor, Delarof Harbor, Porpoise Harbor and Eagle Harbor.|Includes labeled sketches of terrain, harbors, lists of expenses, and notes on received communications.
