Abstract

The journal documents Hank W. Setzer's field work as part of the Smithsonian Institution African Mammal Project, October 29 - December 10, 1965; September 7 - September 30, 1966; October 9 - October 12, 1968. Entries are dated and sometime headed with locality (combination of region, country, town, distance from). Content describes travel details (campsites, routes), daily work and time of day, colleagues with whom worked, interactions with local inhabitants, temperatures and weather, night hunting, collecting method (type, quantity), specimens collected (type, quantity), vegetation including crops, observed wildlife (including abundance).
