Abstract

The manuscript details James Cooper's work in the Washington Territory. Includes lists for areas in the Rocky Mountains from Fort Benton, Nebraska Territory [Montana] to Fort Colville and Fort Dalles in Washington Territory: trees (list includes scientific name, location and description of observed specimen); animals collected or seen (scientific name, frequency of sighting, and indicated if collected with a "C"); birds (scientific name, location, description, when observed, and specimen details if collected); reptiles (scientific name,details about location, observations including whether common or rare, and if collected); mollusks (specimen number, scientific name, details about collecting or observation sights). Also includes geology west of the Rocky Mountains, Coeur d'Alene Mountains, and notes about distribution of the forests etc. with facts relating to physical geography.
