Abstract

The journal documents A. R. Hardy's field work in Mozambique and South Africa, and Bechuanaland Protectorate [Botswana] as part of the Smithsonian Institution African Mammal Project, July 19, 1964 - May 13, 1965. Pages are numbered (88 - 123). Entries are dated and headed with locality (town, country). Content describes travel details (arrangements, routes), specimens collected (type, quantity, sometimes time of day and sex, including insects), colleagues with whom worked, collecting methods (type and quantity), temperature, weather, and specimen preparation. Collecting also occurred at night. Includes pamphlets and maps of South Africa with sketched areas covered by field work.
