Abstract

The journal documents J. C. Geest's field work as part of the African Mammal Project (Smithsonian Institution), September 26, 1967 - July 14, 1968. Entries are dated and headed with location (country, region, and sometimes latitude and longitude). Narratives cover travel details, daily activities and time of day, collecting methods (including type and quantity of traps), specimens collected (type and quantity, sometimes sex), terrain and vegetation, habitat, rough sketches of collecting sites, campsites, observations of fauna (including insects) and flora (including plants in fruit, crops, and signs of cultivation), and weather.
