The field book documents the field work of H. A. Yartrough for the US Geological Survey, August 19 - October 22, 1901. Pages are numbered. Entries are dated and describe field work with details including shell fossils collected (noting rarity / abundance of specimens found), terrain, geological features (layers, composition), times of day of work, colleagues with whom worked, and weather. Collecting sites include types of mines usually identified by name and proximity to a town, bridges, and railroad cuts. Locations are across Alabama. A portion of the notebook is blank.
