Abstract

The journal documents R. E. Vaden's field work in Morocco as part of the African Mammal Project (Smithsonian Institution), September 24, 1970 - June 10, 1972. Pages are numbers (278 - 416). Entries are headed with date and locality (distance from landmark or town, province, country, sometimes latitude and longitude). Descriptions cover daily activities with times of day, colleagues worked with (various), collecting locations (terrain, vegetation, habitat), collecting methods (including quantity of traps), specimens collected (type, quantity, sometimes sex), specimen appearance, observations of wildlife including sightings of reptiles, social interactions, weather, and interactions with local inhabitants. There is a table entitled "trap record" headed with location and listing number, date, type, and quantity and at the end are camp records listing specimens collected per locality with quantities per collectors (Vaden, Robbins, Hearst).
