Abstract

The journal documents R. M. Davis' field work as part of the African Mammal Project (Smithsonian Institution), October 29, 1965 - July 25, 1966. Entries are headed with date and locality (combination of country, province, town), sometimes includes distance from. Entries describe travel details, routes, specimens collected (quantity, type), collecting methods (including quantity of traps), specimen condition, temperature and humidity, habitat, vegetation (including crops), daily activities and times of day, terrain (including discussion of soil), campsites, specimen preparation, as well as interactions with colleagues and local inhabitants. At the end are tables that list type, quantity and totals per localities and regions. Locations are across Senegal and Gambia.
